« The carol "O Christmas Tree" is based on an 1824 German folk song that has nothing to do with a decorated Christmas tree! Instead, the lyrics praised the fir tree's evergreen and unchanging color as a sign of faithfulness and constancy, which humans often lack. The fir tree's close relation to Christmas naturally caused the song to be associated with the holiday as well. »
